President Communicates......

Dear Members and Students,
The year 2003 has began with many successful programmes.
The Students Committee has successfully organised a full day Students Conference on 04.01.03 in which paper writers were students and the Chairmen for the papers were our members. The students presented excellent papers in the conference. This was followed by debate and interesting quiz contest. More than 200 Students attended the Conference.
The Professional Development Committee has organised 11th R.R.C. of the Association at Hotel Anandritz, Matheran on 10-11-12 January 2003. Shri Gautambhai Doshi C. A. inaugurated the R.R.C. and delivered key note address on the ‘Profession in the next decade - Opportunities & Threat’. He gave in a short time his vision for the profession in the decade to come and what we as individuals need to do in the changing scenario. Papers presented by T. N. Manoharan, C. A. from Chennai on “Case Studies in Taxation” and Shri Pradeep Kapasi, C.A. on “Real Estate Transactions – Tax and other issues” were very well received by the participants and all the participants appreciated the matters contained in both the papers.
The Emerging Areas and Allied Laws Committee has organised two day intensive workshop on “Project Finance Consultancy” on 18 & 25 January 2003 Jointly with WIRC. The workshop was grand success and more than 225 participants attended the workshop. Participants have benefit of Eight C.P.E. hours because the programme was jointly organised with WIRC. Excellent team work of our members has been appreciated by Regional Council members of WIRC.
The Association has decided to give Scholarship to the needy Students who are undergoing C. A., ICWA or C.S. Course. The needy students may send their applications to Association’s Office by 24.02.2003. Members may bring this to the notice of needy students.
The Programme Committee has organised free Public Seminar in Gujarati on “Budget 2003” on 08.03.03 at Damodar Hall. You are requested to note down date in your dairy and inform it to your clients accordingly.
Our membership strength has already crossed 500 marks. Even in the recent results declared by Institute of Chartered Accountants of India more than 45 students have become CAs. Many of them are yet to become our members. If you have knowledge of any C.V.O. CA / CS / ICWA who has not become member request them to become member. Life Membership Fee is just Rs. 500.
I congratulate the students who have passed their exam in November 2002. The Association has planned a meeting of those students who have cleared their final C.A., C.S. or ICWA exam in the year 2001 or 2002 on 11.03.2003. The details of the meeting appears elsewhere in the newsletter.
Value Added Tax is going to be introduced W.E.F. 1.4.2003 in all the states including Maharashtra. We are planning to organise Public Seminar and Study Circle Meetings on the said subject in the very near future.

With warm regards.,

Navin C. Shah
