President Communicates......

Dear friends,
All of you would have had a well deserved vacation with a family or may be you are still on a vacation enjoying a cool climate of one of the hill stations and those who were not so lucky would be sweating it out in a scorching heat as the mercury is scaling its yearly peaks.
Out there in a parliament the Finance bill was hatched to be a full fledged Act disregarding the well considered and well thought of representations made by many professional bodies including us. The Finance Minister did some superficial roll back of the few taxation proposals to succumb to the pressures of some of the 'caring' politicians, who could show how much they 'cared' for their subjects. In the process lot many harsh and unjust proposals got their berth confirmed and now they are full fledge provisons of the Act.
The study circle meetings organized on 'TDS - Some Issues' and on 'Sales Tax Provisions in the state Budget' were very much interactive and the attendance there was healthy too.
The Commerce and Industry have to comply with lot many acts and in doing so many statutory obligations are to be discharged each month. An "Annual Planner" of our association is a useful handy tool to remind a client about these statutory 'Due Dates'. It also helps offering a value added service to a client. The compilation of the "Annual Planner" for July 02 to June 03 is in progress and it will be ready for distribution by 20th June, 2002.
Effective communication skills oral as well as written are imperative for we professionals. We must make conscious efforts to improve it. Do send your suggestions as to how and what steps do we take for the same for the benefit of our members.
The situation at the border is very tense. The actions, words and the body language of the neighbours are very much provocative. Our approach to the issue has been very matured and firm too. It has been clearly made known to the world that we are for peace but we can retaliate if they continue to misbehave beyond tolerance. In this situation how should one view the warnings by different countries to their citizen, living in India for mass exodus? Is it just a precautionary measure? Lets wait and see.
With warm regards,

Hiten L. Gada
