09 November 2016 |
Vadodara: The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has given its nod to two project proposals submitted by the M S University's Department of Archaeology and Ancient History.
The department has proposed to carry out excavation at Dhaneti near Kutch in Gujarat and exploration in central Narmada region of Madhya Pradesh, Dr Jitendra Nath, ASI's director (archaeology), told TOI from New Delhi.
The excavation in Kutch will be carried out by professor A Ajithprasad and S Pratapchandran with the support of Gujarat state archaeology department.
"At Dhaneti, there are some burials with very peculiar type of architecture. There are stone circles insides which the burial sites are located. The project is aimed at dating the sites to know which period they belong to. This will also form part of the training programme for masters' students," said K Krishnan, head of department professor. The excavation project is also aimed at knowing whether Dhaneti has any relationship with Indus Valley Civilisation for which Kutch is known.
