Ahmedabad, Oct 14:
A local court in Bhuj town of Gujarat today sentenced a Pakistani to death for smuggling explosives and arms with an intention to cause disruptive activities in the state in 2001.
Fast-Track Court Judge B N Mahesuria today awarded the capital punishment to Shahnawaz Abdul Gafur Bhatti, a Lashkar-e-Toiba man, who resides in Lahore, Pakistan.
The court, however, acquitted six Indians, co-accused in this case for want of sufficent evidence. They were facing the charge of providing shelter to the Shahnawaz in India.
The prime accused was arrested from Haji Pir area of Kutch district with a huge quantity of arms and ammunitions, including 28 kilograms of RDX, two AK-47 rifles, timer bombs and several live cartridges in 2001. (Agencies)
