President Communicates......

Dear friends,
As I sat down to pen my last communication to you as a President of the Association, I could visualise the year gone by in front of my eyes, event by event. The pleasant memories connected with each of the happenings during the year surfaced on the thought waves with a sense of satisfaction of having put in my best and, in doing so, I acknowledge with sincere gratitude the whole hearted support that I received from each one of you. In fact I could shoulder these responsibilities only because of the team effort put in by one and all. My team mates did not require any motivation and they were driven by their own volition and made the tasks achievable for me. Past Presidents and seniors always helped me and guided me. Whenever needed, they even pulled my ears, as one would do to one's own lad only, with a view to strengthen my abilities. I am highly obliged to each one of them. The annual activity report of the Association enumerates the various activities that were carried out during the year. I would be happy to take your word to know whether we did, what we were expected to do?
India is fast moving towards liberalisation from a regulated regime, towards market driven economy from a protected economy. In this flow of changes one can't sit back and relax and let things happen as they were happening. One needs to watch the current of the flow and adjust himself and take a position to use the propelling effect of the very same current for achieving set goals in life. Compliance related tax practice may not survive longer and may get sudden unceremonious burial for more than one reasons. I earnestly urge all of you to read "Expanding Horizons" the recently published booklet of our association. Read & re-read till your mind is not ready to take any action on it, which will really help you to be "one up" in the profession.
As a step in the direction, of what is stated in above paragraph, the association jointly with WIRC of ICAI has arranged a three day workshop on the "Business Valuations". The details are sent to you earlier and also given elsewhere in this Issue of News & Views. If you have still not enrolled yourself, do so at the earliest as it will be for a limited enrolment.
One of our members Shri Bharat Gosar recently got elected to the Managing Committee of the Sales Tax Practioners' Association of Maharashtra. I wish him all the success for the task he has taken up for betterment of the profession.
At the end I must say that I have thoroughly enjoyed working as a President of our Association and have achieved a lot as a person. Knowingly or unknowingly, if somebody is hurt in any manner, I humbly seek apologies for the same.

With warm regards,

Hiten L. Gada
